Dr. Stefan Hagen: “Project Management in Public Administration”

StefanHagenEven a few pages into this blue-coloured book by Stefan Hagen, you discover that it is very methodically structured. You also notice that it conveys an enormous amount of knowledge with great clarity and in a beautifully compact way.

The book is as suitable for “beginners” as it is for “experts”. It provides a simple and well-structured approach to project management both to the eager student and the decision-maker.

Thus, what you get is an efficient overview and an almost complete concept of project managerial knowledge and the current standards and methods. The content is well structured; it is easy to find whatever you are looking for. You can easily “jump” through the book by reading up on individual topics separately.

I recall one citation by someone the author interviewed:

What I see is that there are no technical problems we cannot solve. However, I keep seeing that we have inter-human problems that we cannot solve.

Thus, reading the book confirmed my first impression. There is no difference between project management in public administration and project management in an enterprise.

Secondly, what most situations require is an awareness of cultural change, i.e. it must happen between the ears. In order to efficiently and successfully manage demanding and complicated projects, this ability is a necessary requirement.

I resolved to recommend the book to some of my customers (not only those in public administration) and let people borrow it where necessary.

🙂 Due to the strict compliance rules, I am no longer allowed to just give it away to anybody.

Conclusion:
A wholesome, ambitious and yet exiting description of the central topic “project management”, seen from totally different perspectives.
