Corruption and View of Humanity – Postscript

Here is an extension, provoked by responses and comments about my article “view of humanity …

“Whoever bribes can also be bribed”

If this very plausible statement has a kernel of truth, then there is another problem. What we see of the current corruption scandal is (like the moon) only one side. The other remains hidden. Strenuous efforts are being made to uncover the secret accounts used for bribing customer staff. But is it not highly probable that the suppliers of the accused firm similarly lubricated their contracts? Nobody seems to be looking for kickbacks paid by the suppliers. Perhaps it is because these bribes were much more professionally organised.

I described some bad character aspects in my “corruption article”. Perhaps managers suspect their employees of such vice, just because they are well acquainted with it? Would it not be better if we all acted according to the following proverb?

“Do as you would be done by”

This can be turned round giving “be done by as you did”. A few such cases come to mind. The bank-secrecy of the account of a prominent German manager was broken. He lost his job due to one little CD. Shortly afterwards it came out that he had himself been spying on the private affairs of others.

So there is some justice as a slight consolation. Whoever sets a trap for others…..
