Reading Material for the Summer – Das Messingherz (“The Brass Heart”) – by Herbert Rosendorfer

rosendorferHere is a book I can recommend for you to read during the summer, when you enjoy a nice vacation at a beautiful Mediterranean Coast in Greek, Italy, France …

In southern Germany, Herbert Rosendorfer is something of a local hero. Having been personal friends with his son Jacob for many years now, I could hardly avoid a certain degree of personal acquaintance with the father Herbert, too.

I always enjoyed reading books by Herbert Rosendorfer. However, in my personal list of favourites, one of his books tops the list. It is The Heart of Brass. It is a delicious story of love and pain and at the same time a parable describing the grotesqueness of our world. The exquisite examples are taken from the secret service, church, religion, superstition, and – last not least – business life.

Ever since I read the book, I understand better why the name Julia has such special meaning and why people seek “the blue flower”. And what sacrifices you have to make for the one true great love. And how you can find your truest happiness in the unhappiness of love that cannot be.
But be careful when reading this book. You might easily fall out of your bed because you have to laugh so hard – and you might dream of an unrealistic world at night. There is some danger here!
