How About Looking In On Me Again!

Here is another good intention for the New Year.

I like using the “silent” time between Christmas and New Years Eve for meeting with old friends. This year, I again enjoyed plenty of nice re-unions. Many thanks!

As I was sitting with a friend who is in a leadership position at a prominent American IT enterprise, we started talking entrepreneurial culture. It is important for both of us. My friend started getting nostalgic about small enterprises where the employees are advised not to send in-house emails to each other. Except where it really makes sense. This made a huge impression on him.

It never occurred to me. But it made sense immediately. Why would I send an email to someone sitting two doors away from me if I can just as well go there and tell him personally? If what I want is not important, then the email, too, is unnecessary. And if it is important, then it is better to talk face-to-face.

I, too, always write far too many emails. This will end now. As of now, I will overcome the inertia of not getting away from my desk and remove the (so-called) time pressure. In the future, I will be “looking in on my colleagues more often”.
