UTB 71: Looking Back On Our Bike Tour From Orvieto to Trento

It was another wonderful trip, just as is usually the case for our spontaneous bike tours. For us, “spontaneous” means that we are always looking for the best road, the next stop and a nice place to stay overnight.

Each day is full of small and great things happening; each day gives us thousands of new images and impressions. Each night we stay at a new place, in a new hotel, at a new home.

That reminds me of something Martin Leuthold said (Martin Leuhold was CIO of Jakob Schlaepfer and has now been successfully doing business in the fashion sector for 37 years. Here are a few pictures). During the last RISE seminar, shortly before I started on my trip, he tried to let us in on his secret as follows: he is always wide open for everything around him that might inspire him and he is glad for never having used a notebook. It would only have distracted him.

This is how I feel when going places by bike. I remain open-minded towards the entire world. And I mentally store so many things that make an impression on me that I sometimes fear my head might burst due to the sheer volume of them.

Trying to reconstruct all my day’s experiences, much of the day returns. And I realize what physical and emotional energy such a tour requires. Nevertheless, it clears the head, gives the skin a nice brown colour and gives me new energy.

Again, it felt like a small world tour. We met strange people and shared a small part of our way with them. We took a few moments to stay in magnificent cities.

🙂 And apart from that, we even found the right sign post!

Yet every tour also always means a number of good-byes. Consequently, the end of a journey always makes me a little sentimental. What remains is the hope that there will be many more beautiful journeys in the future.
