“What About Justice?” or “Another Lie About Retirement Pay?”

I wrote this article some time ago. Now the new law on retirement pay has passed the second house and was subjected to massive criticism. In my opinion, this criticism is justified, which is why I am now publishing my article:

After Blüm came Scholz. Instead of “your retirement pay is in no danger”, we now have a “law for retirement pay security”. And now Blüm criticizes Scholz.

Because secretary of state for employment Olaf Scholz wanted a law that forbids a decrease of retirement pay for all times. Now the new law managed to do exactly that, even though such a law makes no sense. How to regulate by law something that has to and will follow global and social developments?
After the tedious job of finding the formula for increasing the retirement pay, it has been invalidated, and now totally annulled. However, the formula for moving the age at which you enter retirement remained untouched, although that is – de facto – also a decrease of retirement pay. Consequently, this, too, would have to be forbidden by law.

After all, compared to current retirement pay recipients, future retirement pay recipients are at a disadvantage. The age for entering retirement is moved all the time. And since people over 60 mostly do not find a new job, moving the age requirement is also totally unpractical. Or will the next law decree that there have to be enough jobs for 60-year-olds?

Apparently, the law for retirement pay security is nonsense. But it is election campaign time, where all is about votes. After all, there are plenty of retired persons, and we want their vote. So we make a law favouring them, not thinking ahead.

But politicians are prudent. They know that it will take at least until the middle of the next legislative term for the new law to be really effective. By that time, the last elections will be long enough in the past to make a revocation of the old law palatable. Because, after all, it is just not realistic.

And by the time people vote again three years later, this will also be forgotten.
