We started on Friday. Immediately after the last InterFace meeting at noon, we were on our way to Innsbruck. We had an appointment with friends and partners for bobsledding in Igls. We met at the Bogner Guest House in Absam, where we also stayed overnight.
After mentally preparing for the event, we were picked up by the bus. On the way, we passed the Olympic ski-jump area. We parked at the end of the bobsled run. It looks like a silver lindworm snaking up the slope.
The weather was a little drizzly. The bobsleds, however, were not hampered by this. They went down at a murderous speed. One of them was driven by Susi Erdmann. Even as spectators, some of us felt a little queasy.
Then it was our turn. On the first picture, you can see me squeezing myself into the sled. What a tight affair such a sled is!
Then we were under way down the bobsleigh run. We covered more than 1,000 metres in less than a minute. First you had to acquire speed, then you entered the run, and then you went down into the valley at almost 120 kilometres per hour. As we arrived, there was some scraping, then intense breaking and then we were there: hurrah, we did it!
It is a nice feeling. After dismounting, we watched the other sleds come down. They went underneath the bridge like projectiles, until finally arriving at the runout.
Then we went back to the hotel – where we enjoyed our “Après-Bob”. Some way or other, we felt liberated, really hungry and thirsty.
It was a long night. Going by bobsled produced quite a bit of adrenaline. Consequently, the general mood was quite open and there was plenty of room for many exciting discussions. Nobody really felt like going to sleep. It was just great.
On Saturday, we recuperated from the bobsledding experience. Somehow or other, the memory of the slide down the run was still with us. And after arriving at home, we had much to tell.
But on Sunday, all was back to normal. Like every Sunday in winter, I went to play indoor soccer in Neubiberg in the morning. I felt rather well. Maybe it was because of my sledding experience? We played beautifully; we won by quite a high score. What more do you want?
In the late evening, the “FC Bayern” played in the “Allianz-Arena”. It was the classical north-south derby: Bavarians against Hamburg. And: it was the 110th birthday of the “FC Bayern”.
And again, the Bavarians set standards. On every seat, all “Bayern” fans found a scarf. Mind you, this was not some advertising scarf. It was a really nice “Bayern” scarf to celebrate the 110-year-jubilee, meant as a “thank you” for the fans.
The very setup before the match was brillant. Then they started. The Bavarian players had a hard time, with intense wind blowing all around the place. And around the end of the first half, you could see a wonderful evening afterglow over the stadium.
The Bavarians won 1:0, through a power shot by Ribery. On Monday, it said in the newspaper that the ball, too, had a speed of about 100 kilometres per hour, just like the bobsled. And, on their day of jubilee, the Bavarians were once again in the top position of the National League.
And after the match, there was a huge firework with Bengalese fire. It was a day full of high spirits, not just for the FC Bayern. And it was a nice finish to a diversified weekend.
