A short time ago, I cynically proposed to introduce the exotic colours of the German flag for a new multi-cultural Germany (Multikulti-Deutschland), instead of for a nation of the past.
Detlev disagreed with me, pointing out the dangers of a new “multi-culti romanticism”.
That is why I will now try to give a linear list of the ideas camouflaged in my article.
Here are the facts as I see them:
- Germany, as well as England, France and other European nations, is multi-cultural nations. Just look at the national soccer teams of these nations and you know what I am talking about.
- All nationalistic fuss ignores the facts, is dishonest and detrimental.
- Due to the demographic facts and migration, the multi-cultural concept will continue to grow immensely.
National states cannot organize multi-cultural societies. It never worked. Not even in the USA. Germany, France or Great Britain will not solve the problems with attempts based on good intentions, such as an obligation for all people living in “our territory” to learn the German language.
- The only chance of coming to terms with the development in a non-violent way is a Europe of regions. That means that culturally autonomous, local and de-centralized structures will have to be introduced (or have to grow). Said structures will have to become part of a tolerant and strong European order.
- And this will also mean that regions will develop in Germany around Berlin or Frankfurt, or in Southern France, upon which we will – due to our xenophobia (perhaps absolutely rightly according to enlightened rules) – look with a lot of scepticism. However, a Turkish region in Berlin and an Arabian region in Marseille will be something you cannot avoid.
So my advice is:
Let us work towards a strong Europe of varieties based on the values of enlightenment and tolerance. And when talking tolerance, do not let us forget: there must be no tolerance for intolerance!
But:
Let us stop dreaming national dreams and having nationalistic illusions.
Consequently, there should not be any black-red-gold orgies in the sense of a German National State. I hope this is now comprehensible and matter-of-fact language, free of all cynicism.
