Pilots cost a lot of money. And in the regular flights, you always have to have two of them. Of course, that makes people hungry for saving money.
And a short time ago, I read that Embraer (Brasilian airplane manufacturer) are not the only ones who work on a one-pilot service. Five or ten years from now, it might already be in the testing phase.
I can easily imagine it, too. All you have to do is make sure that, in case of a pilot suddenly not being fit to fly, the plane will land safely at the next airport. It does not sound particularly hard, does it? Even today, flying in the air without human control is probably not a huge problem.
So here comes my proposition: why not introduce the new profession of pilot/steward(ess)? I would call them Pilotesses. They could serve the passengers during the flight and control the starting and landing phases. After all, flying a plane is not all that hard, anyway.
The idea makes sense. Today, the steward(esses) are at leisure during the landing phase, the pilots during the flight. What a classic case of waste, literally calling for optimization.
And the high pilot salaries would also be a thing of the past…
🙂 Well, my proposition was not really meant seriously, but I am sure something like this will happen.
