Another 17 nights before Christmas!
Advent Time = Time for Homemade Cookies
That is what it was when I was a child, and it is still so today.
However, in my childhood, it was not quite so easy. Because for baking cookies, you need eggs. You need both, the egg white and the yolk that “gives the cake its yellow colour “.
In winter, there were no eggs for us, at least not for your normal population. In those days, hens laid no, or at least a lot fewer, eggs than in summer.
That is why our mother bought eggs for winter in the autumn. I remember well the paper bag that contained a special powder for keeping eggs fresh. It was dissolved in water and the eggs were immersed in clay pots.
As soon as advent came, the eggs were taken out again and used for baking delicious cookies.
Brave old world!
