Since Hans-Peter (HPK) is on vacation, he is giving himself a break from book reviews for a few Saturdays. For me, this is an opportunity to point you towards some authors and books I find particularly important.
Over several decades, I have now been very impressed by the work and life of Carl Amery. He died in 2005 at the age of 83, after having gained quite some reputation as an author and environmental activist. Among other things, he was also one of the founding fathers of the “Green Party”.
I heard several of his comments in the “Bavarian Radio” – and each time I was truly impressed.
His book The End of Providence deeply moved me. In it, Carl Amery (whose given name, incidentally, was Christian Anton Mayer) really settles old scores with Christendom in the truest sense of the word.
Reading the book, you might well re-evaluate your concept of “the Christian and Judaic roots” of our cultural orientation.
I very much recommend the book!
