Or: Why I like “Friendly Persons” better than the “Angry Citizens”!
On April, 5th, there was another big event in Munich:
The “Forum UnternehmerTUM“ at BMW Welt.

The Forum UnternehmerTUM is the biggest and most important network event organized by UnternehmerTUM, hosting guests from politics, business, science and the founders’ scene. This year, the motto of the forum is: “Smart Cities“.
This is quite true and consequently, I always like being part of it. Every time I go there, I meet many old acquaintances from “academia”, as well as from the enterprise scene. The young start-ups I counsel or used to counsel are present. So it is always a great “hello-again” with old friends. Consequently, I went there on April, 5th, 2016 and I gladly point you towards the report on the event. You can find it at MUNICH STARTUP.
The event started with a nice and short “keynote”. Julian Petrin opened the meeting with a short and precise impulse. His words made a huge impression on me. Julian is often called an “urbanist” and “city visionary”. He is probably one of the founders, probably the one founder of Nexthamburg. His presentation was about:
Smart City or The City of the Future that Deserves to be Loved.
Well, the term “smart” is basically a little ambivalent, isn’t it? And, if you first hear it, “Smart City” does not really strike you as something you would immediately feel comfortable with, does it? MBW director Peter Schwarzenbauer said as much during the – quite exciting – podium discussion.
However, Julian Petrin made the term clearer for us with the following positive explanation. For him, the “smart” part of “smart city” is made up from the sum of the terms “digital” and “social” (smart = digital + social). It is about the “friendly persons” themselves taking care of things and starting to develop concepts. This “doing yourself” must not be confused with “self-service” as often offered to customers by the government and all sorts of enterprises. Instead, the term means that you are willing to take matters into your own hands that used to be left to third parties from politics and administration. Part of this scenario are, for example, “hacking” the public urban area and “friendly squatting“.
I found the term “the friendly persons” especially attractive. In all my projects, I also always look for solidarity and cooperation with exactly those “friendly persons” – for instance also at barcamps for project management #PM-Camp and for “active mobility in everyday life“#AktMobCmp or with my PROJEKT FRIEDEN.
Also, I only support start-ups if I get the impression that they are “friendly persons”. I no longer wish to deal with “angry citizens”. They always do huge social damage, which is why I avoid them. Besides, as a general rule, “friendly persons” who work with joy and courage on their projects are usually a lot more successful.
At the BMW-Welt, I only met “friendly persons” and consequently, felt very much at home.
