In September, when the Haching open air pool closes, I start going for my swim in the Phönix. The Phönix is the indoor swimming pool of Ottobrunn. One day it burned down and after it was rebuilt, it was named Phönix.
Currently, it is being remodelled into a big fun pool. Millions of Euros are invested which, in my personal opinion (and following simple calculations), can never be covered by the entrance fees. The necessary construction work causes dust, noise and smell which, sometimes more and sometimes less, is detrimental to the pleasure factor.
The management reacted by posting a sign that says:
Due to the inconveniences caused by the ongoing construction works, we grant you a discount of 10 % on all prices!
That is certainly a nice gesture, because normal prices are high. You get the best bargain if you go for a swim in the morning or at night: the super saver is after 9 p.m. and costs 3 Euros, the early bird price is 4 Euros, both for 90 minutes. At other times, you pay the sports price, which is 5.50 Euros (on weekdays) and 6.50 Euros (on weekends and holidays), for 120 minutes.
Now you can buy bonus cards (between 100 and 500 Euros). They give you an indirect bonus. You buy and pay in advance, and whenever you enter, the respective sum is debited. For the 100-Euro version (bronze) you get an actual value of 110.- Euros, the 500-Euro (platinum) version is worth 625 Euros. Unfortunately, you (mostly) do not get the construction discount on bonus cards.
Being an enthusiastic swimmer, I have a platinum card. I find it unfair that I do not get the construction bonus. After all, it is not like the bonus card advantage came as a freebie. I paid a considerable sum for it in advance. I also find it quite funny that someone who bought a bronze bonus card (getting a value of 110 Euros for paying 100 Euros) actually pays more than the person who purchases a single ticket (90 for 100).
I will call the Phönix manager, Mr. Weber, about that.
For me, it is a little unfortunate that the Phönix has a sales monopoly. Being a cyclist on the way to work between Ottobrunn and Unterhaching, I can hardly switch to the Michaeli bath house in the Bavarian capital city of Munich, can I?
Otherwise, I like the Phönix just fine. People at the cashier’s desk are always very friendly. And the swimming pool itself is mostly empty, even if the rest of the bath house is really crowded.
