It was a wonderful IF blog party on the night before last!
To be sure, for some of us, the way out was a little hard. There was a construction site in Neuburg an der Donau. And, of course, there was no logistical, let alone interactive support for all the many car drivers who toiled while trying to get through Neuburg. All there was were some unkind and not very well-supported detour signs and one of those unspeakable one-way traffic lights. Consequently, there was a traffic jam the dimension of which could certainly have been avoided.
But the agonies were well worth it as soon as the visitors reached the wind engine. The weather was great, as was the sight from the Kienberg wind wheel over the soft hilly landscape all around us. Exciting cloud images, delicious self-baked cake, excellent coffee and soft drinks awaited us in the windmill.
And then some of us went right up in a small cabin on a wench, through the hollow tower towards the first platform.
Two of us, Anke and Barbara, even went all the way up the tower powered by nothing but their own physical strength on the ladder. As we later heard from Herrn Kugler, the owner of the wind wheel, it actually was the virgin ascent up by guests. Before our courageous ladies, the craftsmen who erected the tower had been the only people to risk the way up in this manner.
For dinner, we had a really great snack. All the food was of excellent quality, mostly delivered by selected, small suppliers. Along with it, we had excellent “Kupfer” of “Winklerbräu” – and at the end, there was the surprise: A “Hochmoor-Klarer” and a very special Bärwurz.
It was so beautiful that the night stretched endlessly. I finally went to bed at 2 a.m. on Thursday morning. Consequently, getting up the next morning was a little tiresome.
But it was great and well worth the effort. I would like to thank our lovely hosts, the Kugler family from the Kienberg and Dr. Frank Schütz, very much from the entire IF blog team.
And I already look forward to the next IF blog party!

Who else, but our dear friends,
Frank S. and Roland D.,
Could tell us to shake hands
when higher than a tree?
When we arrived to see the wheel,
the welcome was most charmy.
On home-made cake, we had a meal
to fortify an army.
The lift inside the windmill took
a maximum of three.
Some people took a second look:
“The ladder’s not for me!”
Two ladies showed the rest of us:
Their middle name is “tough”.
They climbed the whole way, made no fuss,
and that was quite enough!
I guess some men were not amused
to see themselves so shamed.
Their beards grow long and they are used
to be the ones who’re tamed.
But let us not wage war or fight
about which sex is better.
We saw the mill to our delight,
these are the things that matter!
We thank Herrn Kugler and his wife
for all these special things.
They made a day in our life,
we felt like we had wings.

Incidentally, this article is number 1,000 in our IF blog! And, of course, the nice pictures of the “air mill” (that is how he calls it) were again taken by Rolo Zollner! Just like the party group picture.
