Some of you brought extra nice presents!
The nicest present I got for my sixtieth birthday was the time all those many friends of mine granted me by spending the day with me. And it was good to see them all celebrating so intensely and in such good spirits.
But some presents were so special that I wish to point them out.
Barbara gave me a picture show. You can see it on Picasa (picture show). I was truly moved.
My InterFace colleagues gave me a song – it was presented to me, but not sung, by Thomas!

It was the first time in my life that someone made a song for me …
And “Biene” and Marc gave me a surprise egg. It was a special egg, because inside, I found the following poem by Hermann Hesse (Stufen) in beautiful small script:
Wie jede Blüte welkt und jede Jugend
Dem Alter weicht, blüht jede Lebensstufe,
Blüht jede Weisheit auch und jede Tugend
Zu ihrer Zeit und darf nicht ewig dauern.
Es muß das Herz bei jedem Lebensrufe

And Heidi did a “Bavarian Gstanzl”. In it, she wished me the best (not just health and prosperity 🙂 ).
And then there was:
A book about soccer in Augsburg (cool) by Klaus, a picture of his daughter by Sigi (great), a bottle of OUZO (light and sweet) from my Greek friends, the best sweets in the world (exquisite) from Doris and Sabine, a ticket for the cabaret from Manfred and Karin (super) and the evening at the Belvedere with Andrea and Norbert (luxurious), the Stralsund specialities from Gudrun (delicious), the windmill with orange watering can and gardening tool from Kathrin (sweet), the Max Frisch questionnaire (intellectual), wine and champagne and almond paste chocolate from my “small” daughter Maresa.
Let us leave it at that, although there would be much more worth mentioning…
