When playing chess, you give up on a lost match. It is not only a question of fairness, but also makes sense. You can start a new match and see if you have learned from your mistakes.
Looking at the current news reminds me of chess. The battle to save the Euro in all these various economies is lost. No matter how many requirements are written and mutual agreements are signed, it will not work.
€pa was not ripe for the Euro. Instead of saving the ailing economies (Greece, Portugal,…) through a drastic cure and helping the not quite so ailing economies (Germany, Austria, The Netherlands), we ruin them all.
Regardless of politicians (and also church members and other representatives of society) promising that we are not burdening our children with anything, this is exactly what we are doing in the financial area. In this respect, we are just as careless as in all other areas (see also the article by Chris Wood on our destruction (Zerstörung) of the world)!
And instead of giving up the match and focussing on avoiding the worst through basic changes, we continue to lie and dissemble.
In the process, we mostly lie to ourselves: it is all the fault of the world economic crisis, the bad banks, the gamblers, the incorrigible Greeks… These are all just excuses. We are too chicken to finally accept our problems and try to face our challenges (environment, obsolescence, educational system, bankrupt communes, ailing finances,…).
Please forgive my plain language – but it is about time for us to stop blocking out reality and daydreaming. Sorry about that!
