“Swiss Conditions” or “Dismissal Protection”

SwitzerlandFlag Switzerland (Schweiz) is a welfare state. It does an awful lot for its citizens. I know quite a few Germans who would wish to see Swiss conditions in Germany. When I hear them talking, I ask them if they also wish to introduce Swiss labour law.
They say: Yes, why not!

Well, I tell them, because in Switzerland there is no dismissal protection (Kündigungsschutz) as we know it:

For people who have been employed less than a year, the period of notice is one month at the end of the month. If you have worked there between two and nine years, the period is two months. Both the employee and employer can give notice. Employees who have been working at the same place even longer than nine years get their notice three months in advance. That is what it is like in Switzerland.

Apparently, this is exactly what the people want. After all, Switzerland is a grassroots democracy. If the people were against this kind of dismissal legislation, they would decide against in a plebiscite. Such is Switzerland.
In Germany, dismissal protection is a sacred cow. It starts after six months. No political party is courageous enough to question it.

P.S.
When I was last in Switzerland, I read in the “Neuen Züricher” that Switzerland currently enjoys a massive growth in numbers of German employees.

P.S.1
How many Germans can Switzerland stomach? I found an interesting article about this.

P.S.3
Apropos dismissal protection and human rights: China, too, gets more and more attractive for German labour …
