This is the first time I stay in Palermo at daytime. First, we ride through the city. We left our luggage in “our” bike shed, where the bikes had been stored overnight.
Two cruising ships have just arrived at the harbour. An MSC and the Costa Serena. It seems that all the coaches of Palermo meet at the harbour in order to earn a little money by offering their services to the “cruisaders”.
Since one of us is a horse fanatic, we also rent a coach. It is considerably less expensive for bikers than for the cruisaders. To make up for it, they try to bargain a tip for the horse afterwards.
It is quite a surprise to see how fast a horse-drawn coach will drive.
After this tour, we know all the three opera houses, the most important theatres, the civic centre, the parliament, the most beautiful squares, the oldest churches, and much more. It was really worth it.
Our day in Palermo is over in no time. At 6 p.m., we have to check into our ship. Maresa wants a farewell pizza. We actually manage to find a Pizzeria that opens at 5.30 p.m. So we get the pizzas – and then have to go and check in, before we board the ship.
At 8 p.m., we start towards Civitavecchia. Our expected arrival is on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
During the night, the ocean gets quite active. We reach Civitavecchia harbour a little late, around 9 a.m.
As we enter the harbour, we discover three cruisers. One of them is MeinSchiff 1 of TUI. It is the ship I once went to Norway on.
Two haulers help to bring the ferry into the pier. It takes some time. At 9.30 a.m., we are back on land. This is one and a half hour later than we had planned. But that is quite normal if you go by ferry.
We ride our bikes to the railway station and catch the train to Rome departing at 10:02. The way to Rome is without any problems.
It rains in Rome. The weather is cold and windy. Yet, there is still enough time for a short cruise around the place. Then we enjoy our leisure at a small coffee shop until our night train to Munich will depart on platform 9 at 19:05 hours. This train is supposed to get us to Munich by Thursday, 6.30 a.m.
So long!
