UTB Palermo #6 From Acquappesa to Pizzo (99.8 km)

On the fourth day of our bike tour, in Acquappesa, as we look out of the window, it rains. Regardless, we start early. We want to get real far. But we also want to avoid having to go too far on the main street, because traffic is very dense.

Unfortunately, however, every attempt at avoiding the main route causes a considerable number of metres in altitude and quite some extra kilometres. So it is probably better to stay on the main street. It turns out to be a good idea.

Even though the very next morning presents us with the next flat tyre – again on Sophie’s bike, we are not doing too poorly. This time, it is her rear tyre. Well, how nice to have diversity. It is easy to find the glass splinter, along with a second one which, however, had not yet done any damage. Well done!

At noon, the sun shows itself and traffic gets less. What more could you wish for? This is pure biker’s heaven until Pizzo. Arriving in Pizzo, we find it a particularly picturesque small village. It is situated quite high over the ocean, pressed against a rock wall.  Now this is something to see and not forget!

And again, we are lucky. Next to the central square – in the evening, they will perform the meeting of Giovanni and Maria – we find a place to stay in an old building. The rooms are beautiful and stylish. There is also a huge meeting hall.

It is a very comfortable place.

As we stroll along the full square, we discover a shop selling local specialties. They sell special cheese, bacon and wine from Calabria.

The samples taste great. We decide not to go eating out today. Instead, we buy food right here and then eat dinner at the place we are staying.

It tastes delicious. And the moment we are finished eating, we all want to go back to the square to see Giovanni and Maria.
Incidentally, Pizzo is the capital of the “Tartuffi”. I do not know if this delicious ice-cream has been invented right here. But there is not a single bar on the piazza that does not sell all varieties of both Gelato and Tartuffo.

So what else can you do but eat a Tartuffo bianco before going to sleep?

It tastes delicious!
