Or: Absurdities
By now, people have apparently lost interest in the Wikileak discussion. In the near future, you can probably publish all the top secrets and nobody will get upset. Basically, what difference does it make?
I found the following arguments run by the Wikileak media wave particularly absurd. At least two comments said that the “re-unification” of Germany would not have been possible without secret politics. And that, if Wikileak had existed at the time, Germany would still be two nations …
In my opinion, this is nonsense: I find it hard to imagine that the citizens of the GDR who really were fed up with the system would have let themselves be discouraged by Wikileak. And transparent negotiations would probably have brought a better result for the conversion of the GDR.
But here is a question of mine: would the GDR have been able to live as long as it did if extreme transparency had existed?
I think NOT! And I also doubt that, for example, the Third Reich would have been possible if the world had been more transparent.
