I love the evolutionary theory. What I like best about it
is the fact that it offers a home
to (almost) any new hypothesis (commonly: allegation),
while at the same time there is no way to prove it.
It does not come as a surprise that the evolutionary theory has become the milking sow on which thrives a romantic craving for theory, particularly in disciplines poorly equipped with theories.
Consequently, it has now also found its way to high blood pressure – in my case 160 on 100.
Yes, you already guessed: I am talking evolutionary medicine. Together with evolutionary psychology and evolutionary philosophy, it now lends refinement to the proliferations of social Darwinism inside the evolutionary theory.
If you ask a simple doctor for the reason why people suffer from high blood pressure the answer will be: difficult, difficult indeed. Until you meet a doctor who specializes in evolutionary medicine, who will tell you some simple and certain truths:
From their time as hunters in the Savannah, humans retain the RAS.
The RAS (renin angiotensin system) is a hormonally controlled regular cycle detracting water and salt from the urine and transferring it into the blood system. Since blood is 90% water, the amount of blood increases, and consequently the blood pressure is raised.
600,000 years ago, this procedure made a lot of sense, because my predecessor living in the Savannah did not have an abundance of water and salt and hunting a gazelle with his low blood pressure, he would have put in a rather poor performance.
And today?
The nearest pub is not far from home, the salt containers are full to the brim. So what remains for the contemporary hunter? He can either fight RAS with medicine, or else get back to the slim hunter’s figure.
Now I ask: what kind of evolution is this if it stopped the evolutionary process 600,000 years ago?
So I decided to speed up the process. I will buy a pelt (theatre equipment!) and a spear (theatre equipment!) and hunt dogs in the park at night. As time goes by, I will gently modernize my clothes and weapons, until evolution will finally have reached its final stage of adaption.
All I ever wanted was for my beloved evolutionary theory to be proved correct.
